That's me....I don't like beer. Especially cheap, harsh American beers that taste like a bar floor smells when the lights come on after last call.
I have tried and tried, it was so frustrating during my university days in Halifax when a pint of beer for one dollar would have been ideal for my student budget. Now, before all you boozers start booting it to Halifax please note I am a tad old and I am sure the price of a pint has increased accordingly.
Last night, just prior to dinner I zipped down to the corner gas station to grab a bottle of wine and some beer. I had no idea what to buy for beer so I went with a local brand that is popular, Okangan Spring.
Okanagan Spring Brewery was established in 1985 and continues to brew from the same location today. As a leader in Craft brewing, we believe in quality, best ingredients, freshness and full taste. Each and every beer we brew is all-natural and without preservatives.
Then came the choice of what variety to buy so I decided to try a new seasonal ale called Apricot Summer Weizen. Summer Weizen is an unfiltered wheat ale that pours to a cloudy, golden amber colour and features a subtle, yet refreshing hint of apricot. [okangan spring web page]
I didn't even read the can as it wasn't for me. When I got in my parents opened one and were both really surprised by the flavour and convinced me to give it a sip....it was so yummy!
Now my hubbie,, who I actually bought the beer for won't even try it he says he hates that kind of beer and any beer with flavour so I guess it's a good thing I like it.
I do like like ciders and this beer has a mild beer flavour and and a nice fruity taste like a dry pear cider.
So if you are looking to try a fun new craft beer this summer I would really recommend trying this one....especially if you hate beer like me.
Next purchase will be a bottle of Gin from Okanagan Spirits, also made here in Vernon where I live.
I found a recipe for rhubarb infused gin to make fun summer cocktails that I am dying to try. Watch for a review to come soon.
happy long weekend friends,
oxo
