Woodland walks in the autumn are soul soothing. As much as this chill in the air makes me long for a bit more summer and dread winter, I adore the fall. The smells, the crunch of leaves, and the colour, especially in the woods.
Our poor little Sammy is freezing as he's a California doggie, he came from a shelter in San Bernadino! I am afraid I am becoming one of those 'dog' people I used to make fun of. Sheesh I almost bought the little fella a turtleneck sweater the other day! Oatmeal organic wool with tangerine stripes...I must avoid the pet aisles at Homesense at all costs till this madness passes. As chilly as Sam is though he's completely enthralled with all the fallen leaves and smells.
While walking the creek the other day with the boys I noticed so many pinecones of all sorts and regretted not bringing a basket, I was already carrying a fallen nest we found and some gigantic maple leaves to press. This weekend I hope to head back in and do some collecting for these projects I found on my visual bible Pinterest. Since it's eco-Friday and pinecones are the ultimate environmentally friendly craft item I found it fitting to share these ideas today, enjoy.
I've done this before, so simple and pretty.
This is such an inexpensive way to dress up re-used jars, a perfect way to light a party...make lots, have them everywhere or line your walkway outside then let guests take one home at the end.
For tiny little pine cones they little people are a cute thing to make for or make with kiddos. Upcycle old woolen socks or sweaters for the scarves and hats or if you are completely mad you might attempt knitting them.
American friends who have yet to celebrate Thanksgiving will enjoy this easy craft to do with kids. I find the craft feathers for kids at big box stores are often not the nicest colours. Hit your local fishing supply store and look for fly fishing feathers....there are often lots of pretty hues on clearance...I generally like the colours not good for catching fish. I've scored pouches of feathers for as low as 39 cents before.
I've also done a version of this and it's quick and pretty and the nice thing about pinecones is they can be hung for a long time over the winter....not just for Christmas.
Instructions for all these ideas can be found on my Pinterest....you can head there from my Pinterest button on the left.
Don't forget the Underdoodles contest is still running, we'll be drawing a winner next Friday. Leave a comment to be entered. I've washed Ry's now and they stayed very nice and he LOVES them.
Here is the original post in case you missed it...
