What a whirlwind of home design craziness... My hubbie is a saint for driving that gorgeous but tedious drive with me every month.
My dedication to staying focused on Birch Hill has once again manifested in a urinary tract infection. Holding your pee is just dumb, even in the name of picking the perfect door handle or granite sample. There is no excuse and now I am guzzling the cranberry juice to avoid antibiotics.
Handing out styling advice comes easily when I am working with others but for our own house it's been so difficult to make decisions. Keeping a tight budget means making compromises at times too. I am not good an letting go of the things I love.
The house is looking amazing. Seeing the walls was so exciting. Still can't believe it's real! The paint wasn't as pinky as I imagined but I need to make a few adjustments to my picks before they do the final coats. We are going to switch from Benjamen Moore's Baby Fawn to Halo, Hazy Skies or possible Innukshuk (thanks T!).
You don't really get a true sense of the colour as it's so bright outside, and the second coat has yet to go one. I am going for a soft putty, not greenish though. This shot is looking into the kitchen from the family room. The dining room is in the middle part. This whole space will be a matte, soft chocolate cork plank.
The Palladium Blue is on the bathroom walls and Ry's room...I am very happy with it. It's brighter than the chip but still fresh and neutral in a weird way.
Looking from our not painted yet bedroom into our pretty blue bathroom. Now I am dying to see the tile in and the tub...baths bring me great bliss. We splurged on a jetted tub too...extra bliss!
Noah's room is calming and modern in a deep barn board colour. If it didn't completely clash with all his stuff I would do Liam's the same.
The very flat and frustrating fireplace! I could kick myself in my own ass for missing this slip up when they did the install for the gas. We are going to beef up the hearth and add a surround mantle to try and get some depth back. It will be fine, I am just a bit of a fireplace spaz right now.
On a brighter note the doors all arrived with lovely black hinges and are waiting to be hung and adorned with their knobs...they are perfect! Just what I wanted. Best thing, not one damn bi-fold door in the whole house. I hate bi-fold doors, they can be so finicky!
To avoid further misunderstandings I have taped up clippings of how things should look in each relevant part of the house. Plans should be enough but sometimes I think the guys get working so fast that they can't help but miss details. I can't complain as I missed the fine print on my kitchen contract about a change penalty that cost us $250. I had a wee breakdown, a panic over picking the wrong cabinet style then a tediously long handle dilemma. Luckily Celeste is a saint and talked some sense into me before I needed to be committed, lol.
On the long, long, six hour drive home we took a small break near Lillooet at the prettiest lake. Seaton Lake is breathtaking, nestled at the base of huge mountains. It's obviously mountain fed by snow melt as it was freezing cold. How divine would it be to be a fish in this paradise?
What I wouldn't have given to hop into a boat and sail away from our car and the rest of the drive back home! The skies are slightly hazy from the huge 4500 hectare forest fire burning out that way. The next hour or so of our drive was very grey and the sun glowed red in the sky through the smoke. Hopefully rain will come soon and assist in putting out this fire, I can still taste the fumes in the back of my throat.
Feeling so grateful for our new house when I think of all the poor families who might face loosing their homes to this deadly blaze. It's been a very dry spring...a little rain would be a blessing in fire fighting/prevention.
