This eco- Friday we happen to be on a little semi-staycation in Vancouver.
Since checking into the Four Seasons Vancouver last night I have been pleasantly surprised time after time. Today I took the boys on a kitchen tour with Chef Bruno Feldesisen and we had the opportunity to see the inner workings of the hotel and the amazing kitchen facilities.
Last stop was the pastry department, Chef Bruno's turf, and the boys got to decorate gingerbread.
Ryan was in cookie decorating heaven and added quite a few more sweets on his snowman.
As we walked through the kitchen hallways on our way to the pastry kitchen blackboards lined the walls with notes and images for staff. The emphasized the 100 Mile diet, the farmer's market, recycling, composting and even more eco-tips. My heart was glad...being Green takes effort and sometimes extra expenses and the Four Seasons was making it a priority.
It's just me and the boys this morning being lazy. Sausage rolls are baking in the oven as per their request, there are hot chocolates all around (a peppermint latte for moi) and they are watching Different Strokes and Fantasy Island on Crackle. Later we might go for an outdoor skate or snowshoe but other than that we are just baking some more gingerbread and playing games.
While their brunch treat bakes and I finish up a couple slideshow gifts for my family I wanted to take the time to wish you & yours all a Merry, Magical Christmas.
May peace, joy and happiness surround you this holiday season and always.
It's been the quietest, simplest Christmas I've had in over 14 years and it's actually been quite lovely for a change. We are taking a little Vancouver staycation in a couple days when hubbie finishes work and then maybe we'll do a bit more last minute entertaining before all the holiday decorations come down...but maybe not. I haven't filled the punchbowl once this year and I do love hosting a party so chances are I'll find a excuse.
The best of all gifts under any Christmas tree is that of giving each other a happy and peaceful Christmas.
Tonight I wanted to share a little gift that a friend gave to me and said I was welcome to pass along. Christmas is about presence not presents, and unfortunately as our days fly by and calendars fill up with commitments we sometimes loose touch with that. Every year I edit more and more and simplify but still
Christmas sneaks up on me. This year we are celebrating tomorrow as hubbie works on the 25th and 26th which gave one less day for preparation. Today is also my oldest boys birthday which adds to the mix. After a quick chat he said don't worry about making a cake and we all went snowshoeing instead...such a good decision. So we ate leftover cake from last night with Peppermint Crackle ice cream and it was fine.
After we prepped Santa's milk and cookies with carrots for the reindeer, hung the stockings, read some holiday stories and finally got brave enough to place the star on my ever so tippy tree I got Ry to bed. Then I realised I hadn't finished a few little gifts I planned for his homemade gift from me...some gingerbread playdoh, a felt gingerbread craft, and a new batch of moonsand paints...feeling a bit antsy I decided to finally listen to Jodi Seery's from Shift Life Designs gift and I'm glad I did.
It's less than 20 minutes and brings everything into perspective. Take a look at Jodi's page and if a little peace of mind sounds like a treat right now pop in some earbuds and enjoy.

Afterwards I was easily able to let go of the feelings of panic that I had lots to do. I decided the gifts I had yet to make can be activities we can make and enjoy over the holidays...he doesn't NEED them tomorrow, I felt the NEED to make them for some strange reason.
Anyways opting instead for a bath with a nice holiday cocktail before I make the stockings. Santa brings the stockings and as they always love them and I always LOVE making them so I'm going to savour that this year. Plus then I'll be fresh and ready to go Christmas morning and won't have to miss a thing while having a shower. Thanks Jodi, as always your work as a Life Coach has helped me find peace of mind and stay on track.
If you haven't seen the movie Elf you need to...it's a holiday must here. Ryan even named his Elf on a Shelf Buddy.
Now that the kids are off and Christmas is just days away we are getting into Buddy mode. Well, maybe a slighty lazy version of Buddy.
My Holiday Magic board on Pinterest is huge and you'll find instructions for all these ideas and more there. Many of the recipes I've tried so drop me a line if you are wondering about something.
Anyways here are some of the things on our 'Buddy List'...
A snowshoe to the creek to get more cedar, and make a neighbour a wreath.
Skate at the outdoor rink and roast marshmallows by the fire.
Go play dominos with a neighbour's Mom who is in her 90's and his Alzheimers but still loves her Mexican Trains.
I have a wack of burned out light bulbs we saved and of course lots of Martha Stewart (the best) glitter in my studio and the boys still need to make a few little gifts so we'll be making some of these ornaments. Love that they are re-purposing old stuff and saving it from the trash.
I still need to make Ry a couple gifts for his stocking and this is definitely going to be one of them...he loves gingerbread and i have some nice new felt from Bear Dance Crafts. Also going to make him the gingerbread playdoh recipe from my Pinterest Kiddo Craft board.
Snowdrops have always been one of my Christmas faves so I'm going to make a batch of these. Noah's got his sugar cookies, Liam and hubbie are waiting for their Cream Cheese bowties and Ry' s got his gingerbread so that might be it for the cookie tray this year. I also made the Nutella Fudge from my Pin Board and it was quick and easy. A lovely friend made me a tin of delish Snickerdoodle cookies and we made quick work of them already.
Speaking of Snickerdoodles, how about a Snickerdoodle muffin for Christmas morning?
And now it's time to make Tres Leches Cake...we are having some friends in for dinner and there is a huge pot of chili, fresh tortilla chips, crusty bread and salad with homemade ranch dressing ready to go...just need to make desert and bribe the clan to help me clean! I like the making and playing part better than the cleanup part, that's for sure.
happy weekend friends,

Our first Mail A Tale parcel arrived today and Ry and Liam were so excited. There was even a sweet postcard with a personal message to the boys and they were amazed. Inside were two great hardcover holiday stories to add to our collection.
Yes, it's become a collection over the past thirteen years. I am a big sucker for children's stories and all things Christmas. The basket is always by the tree and reading holiday stories to the kidlets by the light of twinkle lights is bliss.
Admittedly, I'm a bit of a Children's Book snob at times....there are soo many amazing stories and illustrators I have the luxury of being picky. Thanks Mail A Tale for offering a really fantastic selection in a fun way that's easy to encourage the love of reading in every home.
The Mail A Tale draw is this Thursday as well as the Barefoot Venus giveaway. Keep entering and good luck friends. Take the contest link below.
