Here I go again singing the praises of Method cleaning products...they really ought to put me on staff for all my preaching. Need to catch up? Here are a couple links to bring you up to speed.
Eric Ryan and Adam Lowry, the founders, are Eco Heroes as far as I am concerned. When I saw their guide to detoxing your home on clearance I had to snap it up...
Having been a bit of an environmentalist since my teens there was lots within the pages I already know but were good reminders...but there were lots of new things I learned as well.
About BLEACH...it's always made me cringe.
It stinks, it's highly poisonous, it strips the colour from things but still I hear people saying they can't live without it.
Bleach and other toxic cleaners have been linked to breathing problems, renal and organ damage, allergies, asthma, ADHD and other learning disabilities in children. To top it off, your bleaching blitzes might not be doing the job you assume they are.
"In order for chlorine bleach to work it has to sit on something for 30 minutes....chlorine bleach requires 30 minutes of contact time to kill bacteria and is not effective if the surface is dirty- it must be cleaned first, then disinfected." Washington Toxic Coalition/Squeaky Green
Bleach also messes up your septic system if you have one...yes it's cheap, but dumping it down the toilet in the name of a sparkling bowl is dangerous business. It all ends up somewhere and eventually into our water table. Pick up Squeaky Green or google Green Cleaning methods of your own online...you will be amazed by the options.
Or if you are so lucky as to live in the Sea to Sky corridor my friends Amy and Jill have opened a nifty new cleaning company called Green Clean, treat yourself and check it out. They use and sell Norwex products that work with water alone...I swear by their facecloths, they are amazing.
That's my eco-rant for the week, hope you learned a little something...I have.
happy weekend friends,
