Sometimes I can't imagine myself as a Mom to girls...I am so unimpressed by Barbie and the fluffy superficial toys they seem to bombard little girls with. What if my kids loved that stuff? How could I pretend to be excited for them? Could I resist flinging it all out the car window while driving on the highway?
I suppose there is also loads of similar things for boys but we've been lucky to keep life fairly simple by sticking to all things Lego over the years. We've had little spurts of Backughans or Pokemon cards and a deep love of Star Wars, but nothing so alluring that it makes them want to wear certain clothes and be like the toys.
I am not saying I don't like Miley Cyrus/Hannah Montana, she's adorable and very talented what I don't like is all the stuff they make and sell riding off her name. I don't know what the answer is...I am just kinda disturbed by the whole thing. I guess that's why God gave me a houseful of boys.
Today I got to shoot some photos at a very special five year olds birthday party and she happens to be a big Hannah Montana fan. It was super cute, the girls put on makeup and danced to her songs. The Mom, Allison, actually learned a dance from the HM movie and even attempted to teach the little guests. This was new territory for us, Liam's girl pals in Whistler were the kids of my hippy-ish friends and never into this kind of thing, I've never seen so much pink and purple glitter.
Yay for Allison the super Mom, for making Bryn's day exactly how she wanted it to be. I probably would have made my daughter have a Little House on the Prairie party and we'd make bread or Holly Hobbie party and do nature collages...then she would have most likely resented me for the rest of her life.
Also, thanks to everyone who commented and joined the Snickerdoodles fan page to help Haiti this week. I donated in your honor today.
