In the midst of pre-move chaos I snuck in another IPL treatment today. I couldn't help it...Joanne is the best technician and I don't trust just anyone with a high powered laser on my face. You might remember my post in May after my very first treatment... http://snickerdoodles.typepad.com/snickerdoodle_life/2009/05/ipl-photorejuventation-report.html
I had fabulous results and loved the firming effect in had on my face in the weeks following. I won't get into the nitty gritty again but please do read the post above it you are curious.
Hopping into the Whistler Laser Center is so convenient here...an easy drive, an easy park, and an easy sneak away apres treatment. I can even cut through the grocery store and grab a jug of milk. Over the past six years here I have had nothing but great experiences at the centre and it's my regular stop for SPF 60 facial sunscreen.
This time, I walked away looking less like Magnum PI. I am more Antonio Banderas ...with a slight upper lip shadow. Already some of my really blotchy parts are broken up and speckly which means the treatment worked great. Soon they will fade away even more and be more subtle. My face feels firmer and fresh now that the initial redness has faded. Staying inside, out of the sun and heat after was a must. I gladly spent the afternoon icing my face and making house/move phone calls.
Another wonderful thing about the second treatment is that it's substantially less moula. Joanne focused on the problem areas which are all down the center of my face and it took half the time of my first visit and the bill was half the price. I am pleased.
Last time the girls at the center gave me some silver packets of face products to try out. I am an Arbonne girl, so I took them tentatively. After trying them though I was soon a huge supporter of Riversol Skin Care. I love that they are made in Vancouver by a local dermatologist, Dr. Rivers. Here is some information about the line...
Founded by internationally-recognized dermatologist, Dr. Jason K. Rivers, and run locally in British Columbia, RIVERSOL skin care products address the needs of the urban, cutting edge customer by delivering superior quality AND proven effects. In 1999, after having practiced medicine for almost 20 years, Dr. Rivers realized that many of his patients were confused about the ingredients and effectiveness of products available in the rapidly expanding skin care market. People said they wanted products that were well tolerated, even for the most sensitive skin. They continuously asked what they should be using on their skin, but Dr. Rivers never felt completely comfortable in recommending one specific product.
As a result, Dr Rivers began to explore the medical literature in search of a combination of ingredients that would provide an effective skin moisturizing system with potent anti-oxidants. At the same time, he required ingredients that would minimize irritation to the skin and reduce the risk of allergic reactions.
In early 2000, Dr. Rivers began to focus his interest on thujaplicin, an ingredient derived from the Pacific Red Cedar tree. He came to the realization that as a strong anti-oxidant with other therapeutic properties, thujaplicin was perfect for reducing the look of wear and tear on the skin.
After four years of development, the products containing thujaplicin with other anti-oxidants (vitamin C and vitamin E), were ready. Having tried the products on many friends, Dr. Rivers found them to exceed his expectations. Not only did the formulations effectively moisturize, they did so for people with even the most sensitive skin. The appearance of fine lines and wrinkles was diminished and the overall complexion of the skin seemed improved. T Plus products have not been tested on animals and are designed to be non-irritating. We believe you will enjoy the T Plus line of products because they were developed with the patient in mind. Dermatologist-developed and recommended.
You know with Riversol that you are getting good stuff without all the frills, fancy packaging and crazy advertising budgets, it's very refreshing. I left with the Tplus Protective Serum. It gives my skin a moisture boost and a powerful mix of anti-oxidants to fight aging. Serums are so nice in the summer too, much lighter and cooling than a heavy cream.
As I get near my forties and several of my friends of similar ages have started to have issues with skin cancers from the sun, skincare has becomes less of a vanity issue and more of an overall health issue. Dr. Rivers is the main man in the British Columbia skincare world when it comes to being on top of research and development...check out his bio here from the Riversol web page.
Take care of your skin, wear sunscreen and a hat. Once the damage starts showing up as you age there's no going back...you just have to treat it as best you can. Luckily there are innovative clinics like the Whistler Laser Centre to help reverse all the yucky surprises the start to reveal themselves.
wee update...a big load of new furniture for Birch Hill got delivered last night and now is precariously stacked in our living room. My used piano purchase got tucked in the garage today with help from some strong friends and I got a new batch of photos from Birch Hill! I will share some over the weekend...it's almost done!
